Here are the people who make it all happen.
Head Coach – Simon Moss
A highly successful competitor, Simon was a member of the British Judo Squad for approximately 10 years. He fought internationally in prestigious tournaments including the Czech Cup. Simon won the USA, Belgian and Irish Open Competitions and dominated the British National Championship winning it in total 6 times, 4 as a senior and twice as an under 21.
Came to Coventry from Derby to train full time with Neil Adams from 1989 & 1999 and travelled to training camps worldwide including Japan to further develop skills and experience.
Simon is a qualified Club Coach with 10 years experience, he also works full-time as one of England’s Talent Development coaches.
Deputy Head Coach – Anna Maria
Anna Maria began judo when she was 17, in her native Italy. Hard work and determination helped her achieve results throughout her judo career at regional level (Puglia), three times winning the golden belt award for always being top three in her category ranking.
In addition, Anna Maria always qualified to compete in the Italian national championship and went on to win 5th place. Representing Puglia, she fought internationally, the highlight being a narrow lose to the Cuban Olympic champion Diadenis Luna
Anna Maria won two bronze medals at the Nocera (Umbria) and the Malatesta (Firenze) cups and won silver at the Viareggio (North Italy) tournament, she was always in the top three in her category and won all of her fights scoring more than 100 points.
She then later went on to complete her first, second and third Dan’s with both technique and kata…this included, nagenokat , no kata, kodokan jujitzu, katameno kata,kimeno kata.
Anna Maria ran her own club in Italy for seven years, until she moved to the UK. Since 2006, she has been part of Coventry Judo Club, now coaching alongside Simon, and is currently concluding her level 3 coaching course with the BJA.
Instructor – Phil Hallam
Phil has been with the club for over twenty years and has been a BJA qualified instructor for over ten years, he holds a Level 2 licence.
Interested in all forms of martial arts and self-defence, Phil has trained in boxing, grappling and karate. He is an extremely patient training partner with lower grades, while all senior members know of the threat he poses in randori sessions.
Instructor – Connor Hughes
Conner is a third-Dan who has extensive experience of competing both nationally and internationally.
