Here are the people who make it all happen.
Head Coach – Anna Maria Carbone
Anna Maria Carbone, is a 3rd Dan level 3 coach with over 30 years’ experience as a Judoka, both in Italy and the UK. Prior to moving to the UK, she ran her own club in Italy for 7 years and has previously worked as a voluntary coach with the England ETDC and ETD programmes. In her previous role she coached a wide range of abilities from beginner through to international judoka, including Olympic medallist’s Sam Ingram and Chelsie Giles.
While based in Italy and England, Anna Maria has taught a range of players to achieve their Dan grade and she is passionate about helping players of all abilities. Anna Maria also continues to have strong relationships with the Italian Judo Federation, which has been supportive in organising various judo training trips to Italy. In 2019, she won the British Judo Association UK Volunteer coach of the Year Award, and her club, Coventry, won Club of the Year.
Instructor – Phil Hallam
Phil has been with the club for over twenty years and has been a BJA qualified instructor for over ten years, he holds a Level 2 licence.
Interested in all forms of martial arts and self-defence, Phil has trained in boxing, grappling and karate. He is an extremely patient training partner with lower grades, while all senior members know of the threat he poses in randori sessions.
Instructor – Connor Hughes
Conner is a third-Dan who has extensive experience of competing both nationally and internationally.
